Off-Campus Lunch: What Are The Options?

Central Catholic seniors have the option to eat outside of school campus, but aside from Babydoll Pizza and other distance-convenient restaurants, where else can we go? I did some research and put together a few lists of some of the most commonly and rarely visited places to eat that are close to the school, along with a short list of places for students who prefer a quick drink or dessert.

Places Commonly Visited:

Babydoll Pizza

2835 SE Stark St

Ratings: 4.5 stars

Walking distance: 7 minutes

Popular among Central Catholic students, Babydoll Pizza is convenient, quick, and friendly. With outdoor seats and their famous garlic knots, Babydoll fits everyone’s budget and has a small yet good range of salads, pizza, and sandwiches.

Builicious Sandwiches

2816 SE Stark St

Open 11am-7pm

Ratings: 4.9 stars

Walking distance: 7 minutes

Owned by senior Tunhi Bui’s mom, Builicious Sandwiches has a small range of unique Vietnamese sandwiches and two drink options: Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea.

Whole Foods

2825 E Burnside St

Ratings: 4 stars

Walking distance: 12 minutes

Driving distance: 3 minutes

Eco-friendly and fairly expensive, Whole Foods is a nearby grocery market popular for its buffet and mochi bar. Among Central Catholic seniors, it seems to be most well known for its mac and cheese.

Olé Olé

Driving distance: 3 minutes

Olé Olé draws customers in with its bull statue and quick-serve tacos. Customers, greeted with friendly employees and vibrant colored environment, have the option to eat inside or outside.

Ate-oh-Ate

2454 E Burnside St

Open 11am-9pm

Ratings: 4.5 stars

Walking distance: 8 minutes

Driving distance: 3 minutes

Ate-oh-Ate serves Hawaiian meals, including Kal-Bi beef ribs and Kalua Pig, cocktails (hands off, Central Catholic students), and a friendly, clean eating space. On top of that, Ate-oh-Ate is owned by senior Emma Dyer’s dad.

Pizzicato

2811 E Burnside St

Ratings: 4.1 stars

Walking distance: 12 minutes

Driving distance: 3 minutes

Located next to aforementioned store Whole Foods, Pizzicato’s rather expensive pizza is hand-tossed, gluten free, and vegetarian-friendly. Pizzicato is favored for its high quality pizza.

Chipotlé

910 SE 10th Ave

Ratings: 3.8 stars
Driving Distance: 5 minutes

Everyone loves Chipotlé for its famous chips and guacamole, as well as patient and friendly customer service. Food is prepared quickly and conveniently.

Rice & Spice Teriyaki

4430 NE Glisan St

Ratings: 4.5 stars

Driving distance: 7 minutes

Rice & Spice’s friendly staff welcome customers with warm smiles. Here, famous Japanese dishes, such as chicken and beef bento and salmon katsu, are served. For a quick lunch period, carry-out ordering is recommended.

With a wide range of food, Sunee’s Thai & Lao Kitchen serves delicious dishes from Southeast Asian countries. Sunee’s is loved for their wings, pad thai, and Kaboun. Pre-ordering is suggested.  

¿Por Qué No?

4635 SE Hawthorne Blvd

Driving distance: 8 minutes

¿Por Qué No? is a vibrantly colored, quick serve Mexican restaurant with food perfect for lunchtime and engaging staff members. Customers can choose to sit outside of the restaurant whenever the weather calls for it.

Mad Greek Deli

1740 E Burnside St

Ratings: 4.2 stars

Walking distance: 12 minutes

Driving distance: 3 minutes

Mad Greek Deli’s gyros are made and wrapped with care. Staff members are extremely friendly and grateful. However, driving to Mad Greek, ordering food, and coming back to school will take more time than a lunch period can allow for.

Paradox Cafe

Well known for its vegan French toast, Paradox Cafe is vegetarian friendly and affordable. Paradox Cafe has free WiFi and artwork for customers to enjoy.

Little Big Burger

2028 SE Hawthorne Blvd

Ratings: 4.2 stars

Driving distance: 6 minutes

Little Big Burger offers gluten-free food options and calling in beforehand is recommended. However, walking isn’t. Opened in 2010, Little Big Burger serves special truffle fries that everyone loves.

Starbucks is one of the top visited places according to senior class poll* and with the cold weather, comes the Central Catholic students. Starbucks’ staff are understanding and patient. WiFi is free.

Fat Straw

Driving distance: 7 minutes

Fat Straw is quick to order from and serves convenient boba tea for students planning to drive to Hawthorne. This casual boba joint also serves Vietnamese Bánh Mì sandwiches that are quick to order and eat.

Crema Bakery & Café

2728 SE Ankeny St

Ratings: 4.3 stars

Walking distance: 8 minutes

With pastries pre-made and always ready to be ordered, Crema is a welcoming bakery with fantastic artwork submitted by interested customers who want recognition for their works. Crema’s coffee is the art of the cafe itself.

Saint Cupcake

Driving distance: 5 minutes

Saint Cupcake’s environment is sweet and bright. The range of cupcakes to order from changes every day and cupcakes and packed neatly in special boxes. This quick dessert destination is expensive but worth every penny.
