It’s that wonderful time of year, and the CC Rampart is back, but this time we are going to talk about all things Christmas. With a holiday as big as Christmas, there are a lot of things to look at: treats to make, movies to watch, crafts to make, great songs to listen to, and other fun ways to celebrate the holiday season.
The best part of Christmas is all the treats you can make and eat. There are plenty of recipes out there to make delicious desserts, but for now, we are going to only talk about just a couple of yummy treats. A personal favorite that I make every year is Grinch chocolate chip cookies. These are green colored cookies with mint chocolate chips. If I’m not careful I can eat a whole batch of these. For a more eye-popping treat, you can make a Rice Krispy Treat Christmas tree. For this fun dessert, all you need to do is dye your Rice Krispy Treat green. Then cut them into squares and stack them up to look like a tree. A fun snack to make with the kids is decorative sugar cookies. All you need are some undecorated sugar cookies, some colorful icing, and other candy toppings. This is fun for everyone in the family because they are able to create their own design on the cookie. These are just a few ideas, but there are plenty more online.
What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by watching a cheesy Christmas movie? To me, the all-time best Christmas movie that I can always sit down to watch is Elf. This movie is one for the whole family to enjoy but also has some jokes just for the parents. One of the best classic family Christmas movies is the Polar Express. This is a heartfelt movie for the whole family to enjoy fun songs and a cute storyline. Another fun family Christmas movie is the Santa Clause series. This film series stars Tim Allen as Santa Claus and follows him on three different adventures as he becomes Santa. The last film on our list is one that parents will enjoy. It is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. This classic Christmas film stars Chevy Chase as he tries to put on the best “Griswolds old school family Christmas.” With some adult humor, but not to bad that the kids cannot stay and watch, this movie is one everyone should see at least once. While there are plenty of other amazing Christmas movies to watch such as Home Alone, A Christmas Story, and Die Hard, these four are always at the top of my list.
A great way to make any ordinary home into a winter wonderland is by making fun crafts. The first craft that is fun to make is a popsicle Christmas tree. Make sure that you are using clean popsicle sticks. You can color or paint the popsicle stick any color, and cut them so that you can glue them into the shape of a Christmas tree. The next craft to make is a paper plate Santa. This cute craft is perfect for little kids and is pretty easy to make. All you need to do is to paint Santa’s hat onto a white paper plate and also paint his face. Then you glue on some cotton balls for the fluff of his hat. Then cut some strips of paper and have it rolled a little to make his beard.
The last thing you can make is customized ornaments. For this, you take a clear ornament and put different color paints inside and roll it around to create different designs. There are plenty of other crafts for you to make. Take a picture of what you make and share them with the CC Rampart Instagram @cchsrampart.
What better way to spread Christmas cheer than by singing along to the hundreds of Christmas songs that have been playing since Halloween. Since there are so many different versions and a wide variety of songs, I am only going to talk about just a few great Christmas songs. To start off this list, I am going to talk about one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time: Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is You. When you turn to the Christmas station on the radio, you will eventually hear this song more than once during your car ride. Since its debut in 1994, this song has been a fan favorite and you can’t help but sing along.
In 1966 Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, came to life in its first animated film. Along with this debut the song You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch by Thurl Ravenscroft was brought to life. Describing how horrible the Grinch is with a lot of examples, this song is a fan favorite that has been covered by a wide variety of celebrities from when Jim Carrey brought the Grinch to life in a live-action film. In 2017, Lindsey Sterling and Sabrina Carpenter covered the song, most recently in 2018 a well-known cover was done by Tyler, The Creator. This song is one that will get you reaching down to achieve that low tone while singing.
The last song we are going to talk about is Last Christmas by Wham!. This song debuted in 1986, and as of 2017, the song has sold over 1.88 million copies. Many artists have covered this song, such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Crazy Frog, and Jimmy Eat World. This is one of those Christmas songs that you can always hear playing on the radio. Let us know down in the comments what your favorite song is.
This brings our All Thing Christmas article to an end. Comment down below some of your families traditions and what you are looking forward to this Christmas. We wish you a very Merry Christmas from the CC Rampart and a happy New Year.
