Portland lies on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a 600 mile fault that is about 70 miles off of the Pacific coast it runs from northern California to British Columbia. The Cascadia Subduction Zone has been an active fault for more then ten thousand years. The Cascadia Subduction Zone, will affect Portland when an earthquake hits.
It’s been two years since I took part in the Apprentice in Science and Engineering (ASE) program, but I remember it in vivid detail. It imparted many positive memories and helped me discover a lot about myself. In my opinion, the work I did, computer programming, reflects the new youth, as it no longer uncommon to see people coding.
This past month many high school students in the Portland Metro area attended the Diversity Conference, hosted by Catlin Gabel. It educated students on what it means to be of color in the Portland area, the LGBTQ+ community, and many other subjects that our society is facing today.
